Getting Your Hair Ready for Your Wedding

By Anna Lynn Sibal

This is already an often-repeated phrase, but your hair is indeed your crowning glory and this crown of yours should look its healthiest and shiniest on the day of your wedding. On your wedding day, you should be as radiant as you can be, and that radiance should emanate from every pore of your skin and every strand of your hair.

Beautiful hair, however, cannot be gained overnight. Thus, it is important for you to start giving your hair the extra care it needs to be its shining best on your wedding day at least six months before the event. Here are a few tips on how you can get the hair of a goddess on the day of your wedding.

Planning Ahead

As mentioned above, you should begin with your special wedding day hair care regimen at least six months before the date. At this point, you should pay more attention to the general health of your hair before you think of the possible hairstyles you can wear on your wedding day.

Make an assessment of the health of your hair at this point. Is it dry and frizzy? Does it have split ends? Is it prone to mood swings? If you have dry hair, it would be best for you to switch shampoos and use one that will help moisturize your hair. Aside from this, you should make it a habit to use a deep conditioning product on your hair once a week.

So you could get the best results on your wedding day, consult your hairstylist on the proper way of caring for your hair.

Coordinating Your Bridal Hair with Your Outfit

Once you have gotten started on the right hair care regimen, what comes next is figuring out the hairstyle that you will wear on your wedding day. To be able to do this, you must have made your decision on the style of your wedding gown and the matching headpiece and veil.

The hairstyle you will wear for your wedding should be something that goes well with your bridal outfit. If you are wearing a formal gown, you will need something dramatic, such as an upswept hairdo. If your wedding is a somewhat casual affair, a simple but elegant hairstyle should fit the bill.

Your headpiece and your veil are also two important factors that you should consider when you choose what hairstyle to wear on your wedding day. The hairstyle you select should go well with your headpiece and veil. A big and heavy hairstyle would be better off with a heavy headpiece. A light tiara or headband would only look as if it is floating on your hair. On the other hand, if your hair is thin and short, a light tiara or a headband would suit you best.

Whatever hairstyle you choose, you should select one that would look great even when you take off your veil and headpiece for the reception.

Bridal Hair Tips

Planning ahead on your hair care regimen and coordinating your hairstyle with your bridal outfit are two important things that you should follow through when getting your hair ready for your wedding. However, here are a few last-minute tips that you should make note of too.

  • Trim your hair two weeks before the wedding so your hair would not get that freshly cut look on your wedding day itself.

  • Never experiment with hair products on the day before the wedding, especially with hair colors. If your experiment turns out to be a disaster, you would be undoing six months' worth of hair care. If you want to sport a different hair color for your wedding, you should work with your hairstylist on it a month before the wedding, with just touch-ups on the final week.

  • Do not shampoo your hair 24 hours before the wedding. Styling the hair works best when it is slightly dirty.

  • With regards to your hair, your hairstylist is your best friend. Pay attention to what your stylist has to say with regards your hair care and hairdo.
