Shoes Fit for a Bride

By Anna Lynn Sibal

On the day of her wedding, a bride would do more than just walk down the aisle amidst the admiring stares of family and friends gathered to see her get married. There would be the reception after the wedding, where she is expected to receive the reception line, do a lot of dancing, as well as mingle among her guests. These activities can put a lot of stress on the bride's feet, and so it is very important that the shoes she wears on her wedding day are not just pretty but also comfortable.

Comfort for the Bride's Feet

If you are a bride who is shopping for good shoes to wear for the wedding day, you should put the comfort of your feet at the highest priority when you choose your bridal shoes. There are so many styles of bridal shoes available, in all types of heels, but whatever style you pick, make sure that it is a pair of shoes that can see you through the stress of your wedding day.

You should always pick bridal shoes that are the right fit for you. Bridal shoes that are just your size will prevent your feet from feeling pinched or from slipping off your feet as you go through the activities of your wedding day. You should also get a pair of bridal shoes that have the heel height to which you are most accustomed. In that way, you can freely walk about in your shoes without a lot of strain on your legs. If you think your shoes have the tendency to slip off or chafe your feet, buy shoe pads for added protection and comfort.

Also, it is a great idea to break in your shoes at least two weeks before the big day. In this way, you will get the hang of walking in your bridal shoes, and the shoes would be beaten down a little and become more comfortable.

Looks are Important Too

Comfort is definitely essential in picking the right bridal shoes, but the way your shoes complement your bridal gown is important too. Most brides select the classic white pumps, but as mentioned above, there are a wide variety of bridal shoes available out there.

If you want a pair of shoes that matches your wedding dress, you should bring a swatch of the material your gown is going to be made of when you buy your shoes. Also, remember that your shoes should not take the attention away from your gown. If your gown has a simple hemline, then you can have embellishments on your shoes. If your gown has an elaborate hemline, opt for plain shoes. The embellishments on your shoes should echo those on your gown and the accessories you would be wearing.

Buy your bridal shoes before the first fitting of your bridal gown. In this way, the seamstress making your gown would be able to adjust the length of the hem to the height of the shoes, especially if you are wearing a floor-length gown. As much as possible, buy bridal shoes that you can wear all day so you would not have to deal with trailing hemlines when you buy a separate pair of shoes for wearing at the reception.

You should also consider the location of your wedding and reception whenever you buy your shoes. Stiletto heels are very impractical for garden weddings because they will sink into the ground and make walking hard for you. Flip-flops or flats are more advisable for beach weddings.

Picking the right pair of bridal shoes is very important in building the bridal attire. Not only should they complement the dress and accessories that the bride is wearing, but should also be comfortable enough to wear for the all the activities that a bride must do on her wedding day.
