Getting the Right Deal from a Bridal Shop
By Anna Lynn Sibal
As much as it is a chore, it does not have to be difficult. You can reduce the stress of running around and finding the right bridal shop for you buy doing your homework first before leaving the house to go shopping.
Finding the Right Bridal Shop
It would really help a lot if you find the place to shop before actually going there to shop. Knowing where to go would reduce the time and effort you would need to expend while shopping, and it would also save gas if you were to go and drive around town. Here, your yellow pages are your best friend. They can tell you where to go.
Browse the retail section of your telephone directory and make a list of the bridal shops near you. You can also browse the Internet for this information. The great thing about finding the information that you need from the Internet is that you can access the bridal shop's catalogue if they have it on a website.
You can also ask your female friends and relatives, especially the married ones, if they have any recommendations as to which bridal shop to go. In this way, you can get the right information and honest feedback about a particular bridal shop and its services that would not be advertized anywhere.
Another place to find feedback is the Better Business Bureau. A good gauge of whether the services of a shop are really as it should be is whether or not there were complaints lodged against the shop at the BBB.
Make a list of these bridal shops where you think you can get a great deal for your wedding outfit and then call them one by one. Ask them questions about their store hours and directions for going to their shop. You can also ask them if they carry dresses made by a specific designer or in a particular style that you want, as well as bridal accessories and clothes for the other members of the bridal party. Another important thing that you should inquire about is if they allow for alterations to the dress or returns.
Going Out Shopping
It is perfectly fine to shortlist three or so bridal shops after you have made your phone calls. After all, it is highly likely that you may not find what you are looking for in one shop, so it would be great to find a backup in case one bridal shop does not work out for you.
After you are done with your phone calls, set aside a full day for shopping. Bring one of your bridesmaids or your mother or a close friend with you. They will be able to give you an honest opinion if the bridal shop you go to is a good place to buy from or if the goods they carry are suitable.
You would know that a bridal shop is a good place to make your purchases for your wedding day with just one glance. A good bridal shop would be clean and well-organized. They would also have private dressing rooms with good lighting, ample spaces and mirrors. These implements will allow you to see how a particular dress and accessories would look like and move with you when you actually wear them.
If the bridal shop does not have the things you need for your bridal attire, you do not have to feel obligated to buy anything from it. Go ahead and check out the other bridal shops on your list.
