Ideas for Planning a Bridal Shower Party

By Anna Lynn Sibal

Attention to details is what makes a bridal shower party successful. Are you tasked to organize and host a bridal shower party but do not know how to start going about with it? Here are some bridal shower ideas that you could use to get you started.

Bridal Shower Theme Ideas

When planning a bridal shower, it would help a lot if you do it with a certain theme in mind. If you have a theme for your bridal shower, you could create a unified and harmonious atmosphere for your bridal shower party. In short, it would give your party a focal point.

How do you go about choosing a theme? Just like any aspect of the wedding, the theme you choose for your bridal shower party should be something that directly relates to the bride.

You could go traditional and set a theme that pertains to something that the bride needs to set up her household. You could go for a kitchen theme and have your guests bring things found in a kitchen for gifts to the bride, such as silverware, a tea set, a food processor or even an electric can opener. A linens theme would have your guests bringing household linens as gifts - bedsheets, tablecloths, pillow cases, bath towels and the like.

If the bride and groom are going to honeymoon in, say, Hawaii, you can have a luau bridal shower theme. The decorations and the food would be those commonly found in luau parties. The gifts can be anything picked out from the couple's bridal registry.

Bridal Shower Food Ideas

The food you will serve at the bridal shower can also be dependent on theme of the affair. In the luau bridal shower theme given above, you can serve food that has a tropical flavor in it, such as pineapple boats with tuna and chicken salad, chicken katsu and coconut pie. Of course, the drinks would include pina coladas and mai tais.

If you want a no-fuss meal, you can serve finger foods. Small sandwiches, chips and breadsticks with yummy dips, hors d'oevres, cold cuts and cocktails will do the trick.

If you want a sit-down meal or a buffet, you can do that as well. You can display your culinary skills here, or you can have the food catered.

Bridal Shower Games

Games are an inevitable part of the bridal shower programme. They make the atmosphere of the party light and fun. Games also make sure that everyone is occupied and not bored.

Popular games played in bridal showers include:

    1. Bridal dress. The guests are divided into groups of three to five and form an entire wedding outfit from rolls of toilet paper.

    2. Bridal trivia. The facilitator of the games can ask trivia questions about the bride to test how much they know her. It is a fun way of teasing the bride.

    3. Song guessing. Before the party starts, guests are given small pieces of paper, on which they write down the title of first dance at their own wedding, the theme song of the relationship they currently are in, or just their favorite love song. Later on, the guests get to guess which songs are given by whom.

There are many ideas that you can get for preparing a bridal shower. Be as creative as you can be when you plan your bridal shower party. To get some inspiration, search the Internet or read bridal magazines.
