Hair Salon for the Bride

Making The Most Out Of Your Hair Salon Appointment

By Anna Lynn Sibal

We all have had bad hair days. But it goes without saying that bad hair days come and go, and if we woke up this morning with a head of hair that refuses the coaxing of our brush, it is not a given that it would be the same the following morning. Besides, a bad hair day can be fixed with a ponytail, a braid or a headband.

The same cannot be said, however, of a bad hairstyle. If you got a bad haircut from your hairstylist, it would take weeks for you to be able to do away with it. This is why it is important that we choose the right hairstylist from the right hair salon.

How can we find the right hairstylist from the right hair salon? Here is how:

1. Do your research. Having a great hairstyle starts with finding the right hairstylist for you. But you have to search for your hairstylist in order to find her. The search can be simple. If you like the way your friend's hair was cut, then you can ask for the name of her stylist. Or, you can go online and search the Internet for a hairstylist or a hair salon in your locale and check out pictures of the hairstyles they specialize in.

2. Scout the salon. Once you find the hairstylist that you think you like, you can visit the salon she works in. If the hair salon looks clean enough for you and you like the ambiance of the place, it is the right salon for you.

3. Schedule an appointment. Make sure that you grab an appointment with the stylist in the morning. In that way, your stylist will be fresh on her feet when she gets to work with you.

However, if it is not possible for you to book an appointment in the morning, check how the hair salon handles the scheduling of their stylists. The appointments should have a space of at least 30 minutes in between so that the stylist can have some rest at work.

4. Do a consult first. Before you let the stylist snip at your hair, talk to her first. Be certain that you are on the same page when it comes to how you want your hair to look like. Bring any pictures of the hairstyle that you have in mind on your appointment so that your stylist will have an idea of what you want.

5. Pay attention. Of course the gossip in the magazines provided in hair salons can be intriguing and engaging, but you are at the hair salon to get your hair styled, not to read magazines. It would be in your best interest to keep your eyes on the mirror and watch every move of your stylist's hands. In that way, you will be sure that your hairstyle is something that you want.

Also, you can see for yourself what products the stylist used to create your hairstyle and how she used these products. Through this, you will be able to replicate the process on your own later on.

6. Speak up. You do not like what the hairstyle ended up looking like? Tell the stylist exactly what you feel about your new hairstyle. If you want her to re-do it, go ahead and tell her. Just be sure that the two of you understand each other on what it is that you want.
